Stakeholder Workshop
Most attendees of IEP meetings do not facilitate the meetings. However, they are active participants with a need to understand the role of the facilitator and the approaches and techniques used by the facilitator. These people can include:
- School administrators
- Classroom teachers
- Parents
- Related services providers
- Counselors
- Social workers
- Advocates
Participants will leave with a clear understanding of their role in the meeting as well as how to prepare for active participation, ensuring the meeting process stays focused on the needs of the student.

FAQs
Why would someone attend this workshop?
Many people are involved in IEP meetings besides the facilitator. This workshop helps prepare all the IEP meeting participants to understand the facilitation process, and empower all the Stakeholders (IEP meeting participants) to participate in IEP meetings.
Who should attend this workshop?
Anyone who is a participant at IEP meetings should attend. This includes parents and advocates, general and special ed classroom teachers, school site administrators, school psychologists and service providers, and others. All can gain an understanding of the facilitation process.
Do participants learn how to facilitate IEP meetings?
No, these are IEP meeting participants (stakeholders) who will not be facilitating, but who will be collaborating and making decisions about the student’s plan. It’s important for these IEP meeting participants to understand the facilitation process and the role of the facilitator in managing the meeting.
How long does this workshop last?
This workshop lasts one half-day. In that time, the participants are given an understanding of the differences between a traditional IEP meeting and a facilitated IEP meeting. Participants will watch a short video of a facilitated IEP meeting, and they will learn some simple strategies to use as participants to support collaborative decision-making.
Is this a lecture based workshop?
All Key2Ed workshops include multiple instructional strategies. These include a PowerPoint presentation, small group and large group discussions, and a video of a facilitated IEP meeting. Since the participants are not training to be facilitators but to understand the process, this workshop does not require role-playing scenarios.
